Dreddmondia is a retro dungeon-crawler roguelike that blends classic NES-era design with resource management and environmental puzzles. You are a lone adventurer tasked by a mysterious Altar to cleanse corrupted zones of their "Bad Vibes"—but nothing about this world is quite as it seems.
Core Experience
Navigate through nine increasingly twisted biomes, from the Bog of Mostly Minor Threats to the Final Bastion at world's end. Each zone is a tactical gauntlet designed to drain your resources (HP and Vibes) through high-encounter monsters, spatial puzzles, and environmental hazards. You'll forge new equipment, brew potions from exotic monster parts, and contend with quirky NPCs (a cursed alchemist, a capitalist blacksmith, and a franchised innkeeper) who grow more unhinged as reality crumbles around you.
Gameplay Loop:
- Explore a Mondrian-inspired 2D grid, fighting monsters and gathering loot
- Survive by managing HP and Vibes (your spiritual stamina)
- Craft potions and forge better gear using monster parts as currency
- Defeat each zone's boss to unlock the next realm
- Repeat and grow stronger — or lose it all

Core Mechanics
- Vibes: Spiritual energy that drains when you encounter high-density monster areas or traverse hazardous terrain. Reaching a certain vibe threshold reveals the zone boss and portal to the next area.
- Equipment: Weapons and armor grant stat bonuses and trigger special effects during combat (lifesteal, poison, gold multipliers, etc.).
- Potions: Brewed from sequences of monster parts. Each recipe produces a unique effect (healing, stat boosts, chaos effects).
- Boss Trophies: Rare drops from bosses that can be socketed into gear for powerful passive abilities.
- Gold: Earned from victories; spent at the Blacksmith for forges and repairs.
Tips
- Map design rewards exploration: find hidden shortcuts (H) to bypass the long walk back.
- Monsters drop parts; part tags (Organic, Hardened, Ethereal, Mechanical) determine what you can craft.
- Talk to NPCs for hints about loot locations, mini-bosses, and zone secrets.
